About Surviving 

The threats to your personal safety and your family's survival are surprisingly quite numerous. Based on expert reports and predictions, one could easily name a dozen credible threats that could lead to a crash of society, and/or the government (either long term or short) which most of us count on for protection and sustenance (think police, fire, EMS, municipal water supplies, functioning road and railways, etc....

Just a few of the predicted doomsday threats include an economic collapse (which could lead to a food crisis and subsequent social collapse), or a terrorist threat which could include a nuclear, biological or chemical attack. It's not unrealistic to imagine a scenario in which the largest supplies of fresh water are tainted, and the results would devestating to humans and livestock. Or the threat could be realized by the insertion of a biological weapon which could target livestock, crops or humans. Another predicted threat to your survival are natural disasters. In this case the damage could come in the form of a "Doomsday Tsunami", an earth-changing 10.0 mega earthquake, or even a major volcanic eruption which would kill many hundreds of thousands (or millions) from the blast alone, and cause major havoc elsehwere by disrupting or destroying crops and livestock.

As you can see, after barely a mention of the possible threats to global safety and security we don't have to stretch our imagination too far in order to see that signs do seem to indicate that earth is due for a major change. But don't rush for the bunker just yet.

Why Care About How To Survive

I've been a proponent of survival preparation for a long time, even before it became popular. The large scale disasters mentioned above notwithstanding, we also face a localized threat of natural disaster all the time. Many of us have been (or know people who have been) affected by regional incidents such as Tornados, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Volcanic Eruption (think Mt St. Helens not too long ago), the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, etc...

Because of even these regional (and comparitively minor) threats, I've long believed that families should make reasonable preparations to take care of their personal and immediate needs in a crisis. But the truth is, why, if we're already preparing to a smaller "degree," would we not go ahead and take additional minor steps to improve the odds that our family could survive almost any disaster which may strike? And that rationale is what prompted the development of this website.

Survive This - Why It Matters

As in all things there are those who tend to fall in to the extreme perimeters. Those who sell everything they own because they believe that the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012 will be the end of mankind as we know it. But I tend to think of survival preparation as I would an insurance policy. I don't "think" I'm going to die next month, but I know that historically and statistically there is a "chance" that I could, and to me and hundreds of millions of other people it makes good sense to "prepare" for that possibility in a reasonable way to protect my family, so I buy life insurance. Likewise, it is only reasonable to look at the risks and predictions facing us right now, and take reasonable steps to prepare, just in case they come to fruition. If they don't, it was a reasonable precaution, and if they do, my family will be among the few who has a fair chance of surviving and protecting ourselves.
